What acoustic panels do
The difference between a good-looking space and a good-sounding one.
Acoustic panels are wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted surfaces designed to absorb sound energy and reduce reverberation within a space. They do not soundproof a room — they treat the acoustic quality of the room itself, reducing echo, background noise, and speech intelligibility problems that make open-plan offices, conference rooms, and institutional spaces difficult to use.
Unidus Acoustics manufactures U-TONE acoustic panels from recycled polyester felt at 180–200 kg/m³ density. This core material achieves an NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) of 0.70 to 0.90 depending on thickness, meaning the panels absorb 70–90% of the sound energy that strikes them. The surface — whether fluted, grooved, fabric-wrapped, 3D etched, or printed — is a design decision that sits on top of consistent acoustic performance.
All U-TONE panels carry a Class B1 fire rating and are manufactured using recycled post-consumer PET bottles (88 per square metre), qualifying for IGBC and LEED green building credits. Custom dimensions, colour matching, and surface finishes are available for every panel type.

Fluted Panels
Acoustic Fluted Panels
Vertical-fluted profiles that diffuse and absorb sound without sacrificing sightlines or daylight. Suited to open-plan offices and high-traffic circulation spaces.
Geometric groove patterns that reduce echo and reverberation while adding architectural depth to walls. Available across conference rooms, auditoriums, and hospitality interiors.
Etched three-dimensional surface panels that create visual depth on walls while maintaining consistent acoustic absorption performance. Strong choice for feature walls in lobbies and boardrooms.
Raised multi-dimensional profiles that combine bold visual impact with strong sound diffusion. The Ether and Zenneth patterns are well suited to high-design hospitality and corporate reception areas.
Soft fabric-covered panels that deliver the highest absorption coefficients across the full frequency range. Disinfectable via fog, spray, or wipe — well suited to healthcare and education settings.
Full-surface printing on acoustic panels — corporate branding, photography, custom artwork, or abstract colour fields. NRC performance is identical to the standard panel range.
Wood-finish slat profiles on an acoustic felt core. Combines the warmth of natural material with the practicality of recycled polyester performance. Widely specified in hospitality and corporate spaces.
Broad-spectrum sound absorption across low, mid, and high frequencies. The fibrous surface texture qualifies for LEED credits and suits education, civic, and institutional fit-outs.
A single ceiling or wall element combining Class B1 acoustic absorption and integrated LED illumination. Removes the coordination problem between lighting and acoustic specifications in one surface.
500×500 mm modular acoustic tiles with geometric relief patterns for accent walls and feature zones. Install as full-coverage or patterned tile layouts. Variants: Ember and Mirage.

Each square metre of Unidus Acoustics U-TONE acoustic panel uses the equivalent of 88 recycled post-consumer PET bottles. The material is diverted from landfill, processed into a high-density polyester felt at 180–200 kg/m³, and manufactured into panels that absorb sound, resist fire, and last decades in commercial interiors.
This approach qualifies U-TONE panels for green building credits under the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) and LEED rating systems — relevant for corporate and institutional clients with sustainability reporting obligations.

Frequently asked questions
What specifiers ask about acoustic panels
Complete answers on NRC ratings, fire safety, customisation, installation, and how to choose the right panel type for a project.
An acoustic panel is a sound-absorbing surface mounted on walls or ceilings to reduce reverberation, echo, and background noise within a space. It works by converting sound energy into a negligible amount of heat as sound waves pass through and interact with the porous material inside the panel.
Acoustic panels do not soundproof a room — they treat the acoustic quality of the room itself, reducing the reverberation time (RT60) and making speech more intelligible. Unidus Acoustics U-TONE panels are manufactured from recycled polyester felt at 180–200 kg/m³ density, achieving an NRC of 0.70 to 0.90.
NRC stands for Noise Reduction Coefficient — a single-number rating between 0 and 1 that expresses how much sound a material absorbs averaged across four frequencies (250 Hz, 500 Hz, 1000 Hz, 2000 Hz). NRC 1.0 means 100% absorption; NRC 0 means total reflection (like a concrete wall).
An NRC of 0.90 means the panel absorbs 90% of incident sound energy at the test frequencies. For occupied commercial spaces, an NRC of 0.70 or above is the standard threshold. Thicker U-TONE panels (18–24 mm) achieve NRC up to 0.90, primarily by improving low-frequency absorption which thinner panels address less effectively.
Unidus Acoustics manufactures 10 types of acoustic wall panels under the U-TONE brand, all sharing the same recycled polyester core (NRC 0.70–0.90, Class B1 fire rated) with different surface treatments:
Standard panel sizes are 2400×1200 mm, 2400×600 mm, and 1200×600 mm. Thickness options are 9 mm, 12 mm, 18 mm, and 24 mm. The Embossed 3D Tile format is 500×500 mm at a 2 mm relief profile. Custom dimensions are available for projects with non-standard wall dimensions or specific architectural drawings.
Yes. All U-TONE acoustic panels carry a Class B1 fire rating, which is the flame-retardant standard required by most commercial fit-out specifications in India. Class B1 means the material is classified as flame-retardant — it will not easily ignite and will not sustain or spread fire on its own.
Fire test certificates and technical documentation are available on request for institutional tender submissions and government project approvals.
For open-plan corporate offices, Unidus Acoustics typically specifies Fluted or Grooved panels at 18–24 mm thickness (NRC 0.85–0.90) on feature and perimeter walls, combined with suspended Acoustic Baffles or Clouds above the workstation field. This addresses both wall reflections and the overhead sound field simultaneously.
Fabric Wrap panels work well in enclosed conference rooms where the maximum absorption coefficient matters most. Desk Dividers from the AcoustiSo range can be added at the workstation level for speech privacy. The combined target reverberation time (RT60) for open-plan offices is 0.4–0.6 seconds.
Yes. All U-TONE panels are available in 50+ standard colours, with custom colour matching for large orders. Custom panel dimensions are supported across all types. Shape variants (half panels, full panels, screen formats) are available on all surface types.
Printed panels support full-surface artwork, corporate logo application, photography, and abstract designs printed directly on the panel surface without affecting acoustic performance. A physical sample box is available for delivery anywhere in India at no charge.
U-TONE panels are fixed using a concealed gripper or adhesive clip system directly onto existing wall substrates or a lightweight metal sub-frame. No cutting, drilling, or major civil work is required, minimising site disruption and keeping other trades unaffected.
Unidus Acoustics manages installation through trained teams across 16 cities in India. A standard commercial floor plate of 2,000–3,000 sq ft is typically completed within 2–3 working days. Installation can be scheduled during off-hours to avoid disrupting live operations.
Soundproofing reduces the transmission of sound between rooms — it is about blocking sound passing through walls, floors, and ceilings. It typically requires mass-loaded materials, double-leaf construction, or isolation mounts built into the structure.
Acoustic panels treat the acoustic quality within a room — they absorb sound to reduce reverberation and echo inside the space. They are applied to existing walls and ceilings without structural modification. Most commercial acoustic problems (speech intelligibility in offices, echo in auditoriums, noise build-up in canteens) are treated with acoustic panels, not soundproofing.
